Mactor 40 Tablet contains Atorvastatin 40 mg, a potent lipid-lowering agent belonging to the statin class. It is primarily indicated for the management of hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia to reduce elevated total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), apolipoprotein B, and triglycerides, while increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Atorvastatin works by selectively inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis, resulting in decreased cholesterol production and increased clearance of LDL from the bloodstream. Mactor 40 is used both as monotherapy and as adjunctive therapy to diet and lifestyle modifications in patients at risk of cardiovascular disease, including those with a history of myocardial infarction, stroke, or peripheral arterial disease. The tablet is administered orally, typically once daily, with or without food. Common side effects may include headache, myalgia, and gastrointestinal disturbances; however, serious adverse effects such as myopathy or hepatotoxicity are rare but warrant monitoring. Regular liver function tests and lipid profiles are recommended during therapy. Mactor 40 should be used cautiously in patients with hepatic impairment or a history of muscle disorders and is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.
