Luporal Capsule is a combination chemotherapeutic agent containing Tegafur (100 mg) and Uracil (224 mg), primarily indicated for the treatment of various solid tumors, including colorectal and gastric cancers. Tegafur is a prodrug of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), which exerts its antineoplastic effect by inhibiting thymidylate synthase, thereby disrupting DNA synthesis and inducing tumor cell apoptosis. Uracil enhances the efficacy of Tegafur by competitively inhibiting dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD), the enzyme responsible for 5-FU degradation, resulting in prolonged systemic exposure to 5-FU and improved therapeutic outcomes. Luporal Capsule is administered orally, offering a convenient alternative to intravenous 5-FU therapy. The dosage and treatment duration should be individualized based on the patient’s clinical condition, tumor type, and response to therapy. Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and mucositis, as well as hematological toxicities like leukopenia and anemia.
