Lumaglo Cream is a topical formulation containing Hydroquinone 2% w/w, Tretinoin 0.025% w/w, and Fluocinolone acetonide 0.01% w/w, indicated for the treatment of melasma and other hyperpigmentation disorders. Hydroquinone acts as a depigmenting agent by inhibiting tyrosinase, thereby reducing melanin synthesis in the skin. Tretinoin, a retinoid, promotes epidermal cell turnover and enhances the penetration of hydroquinone, facilitating more effective pigment reduction. Fluocinolone acetonide, a mild corticosteroid, provides anti-inflammatory effects that help minimize irritation and redness commonly associated with hydroquinone and tretinoin use. Lumaglo Cream is typically applied once daily at bedtime to the affected areas, ensuring avoidance of sensitive regions such as the eyes and mucous membranes. Patients should be advised to use sunscreen and limit sun exposure during treatment to prevent exacerbation of pigmentation and phototoxic reactions. The combination therapy is generally well tolerated; however, potential side effects include mild erythema, peeling, dryness, and rarely, steroid-induced skin atrophy with prolonged use.
