Carboxymethylcellulose (0.5% w/v)
Active composition
Carboxymethylcellulose acts as a lubricant, increasing moisture retention and providing protection against irritation in the eye.
Medical applications
Lubidrips Lubricant Eye Drop contains Carboxymethylcellulose 0.5% w/v as its active ingredient, a hydrophilic polymer that functions as a viscoelastic agent to provide effective ocular surface lubrication. It is indicated for the symptomatic relief of dry, irritated eyes caused by environmental factors, prolonged screen exposure, contact lens wear, or postoperative dryness. By mimicking natural tears, Lubidrips helps to maintain moisture on the corneal and conjunctival surfaces, thereby reducing discomfort, burning, and foreign body sensation. The formulation is preservative-free, minimizing the risk of hypersensitivity reactions and making it suitable for frequent use. Lubidrips is administered topically as one or two drops in the affected eye(s) as needed, with dosage adjusted according to symptom severity. It is compatible with contact lenses, which should be removed prior to instillation and may be reinserted after 15 minutes. Caution is advised in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation. Lubidrips does not affect pupil size or accommodation and has no known systemic side effects. Regular use may improve ocular comfort and protect the corneal epithelium in patients with dry eye syndrome or exposure keratopathy. Consultation with an eye care professional is recommended if symptoms persist or worsen.
