This inhibition results in decreased cholesterol production in the liver, leading to upregulation of LDL receptors and enhanced clearance of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) from the bloodstream. Liponorm 40mg is prescribed to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, while modestly increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C).

It is effective in primary and secondary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, including myocardial infarction, stroke, and angina. The tablet should be administered once daily, with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Patients should be monitored for liver function and muscle-related adverse effects, such as myopathy or rhabdomyolysis, especially when used concomitantly with other medications known to increase statin levels.
