LIPICURE 60 Tablet contains Atorvastatin 60 mg, a potent lipid-lowering agent belonging to the statin class. It is primarily indicated for the management of hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia to reduce elevated total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), apolipoprotein B, and triglycerides, while increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C).

Atorvastatin exerts its effect by selectively inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme responsible for the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate, a crucial early step in cholesterol biosynthesis. This inhibition leads to increased expression of LDL receptors on hepatocyte surfaces, enhancing clearance of LDL particles from the bloodstream. Lipicure 60 is indicated for primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease in patients with risk factors such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, or established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
It is also used in familial hypercholesterolemia to achieve target lipid levels. The dosage should be individualized based on therapeutic response and tolerability, with regular monitoring of lipid profiles and liver function tests recommended. Common adverse effects include headache, myalgia, and gastrointestinal disturbances; rare but serious effects include myopathy and hepatotoxicity.
Lipicure 60 should be used with caution in patients with liver impairment and contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.
