Levetiracetam acts by modulating synaptic neurotransmitter release through binding to the synaptic vesicle protein SV2A, thereby stabilizing neuronal activity and preventing seizure propagation. This injectable formulation is intended for intravenous administration when oral therapy is not feasible, ensuring rapid onset of action in acute settings. Levipil Injection is typically used as adjunctive therapy in adults and pediatric patients aged one month and older. The pharmacokinetic profile of Levetiracetam is characterized by rapid absorption, minimal protein binding, and predominant renal excretion, necessitating dose adjustments in renal impairment. Common adverse effects include somnolence, dizziness, headache, and behavioral changes such as irritability or agitation.
