Clotrimazole (2% w/w)
Active composition
Clotrimazole disrupts the integrity of the fungal cell membrane, leading to leakage of cellular components and death of the fungus.
Medical applications
Leezole Gel contains Clotrimazole 2% w/w, an imidazole antifungal agent effective against a broad spectrum of dermatophytes, yeasts, and molds. It is indicated for the topical treatment of superficial fungal infections such as athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris), ringworm (tinea corporis), and cutaneous candidiasis. Clotrimazole acts by inhibiting the biosynthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes, leading to increased membrane permeability and ultimately fungal cell death. Leezole Gel is intended for external use and should be applied to the affected area twice daily or as directed by a healthcare professional. The formulation ensures good skin penetration and sustained antifungal activity. It is generally well tolerated, with minimal risk of local irritation or allergic reactions. Use should be continued for the full prescribed duration, even if symptoms improve earlier, to prevent recurrence. Leezole Gel is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to clotrimazole or any excipients in the formulation. Caution is advised when applying near mucous membranes or broken skin. Consult a healthcare provider if symptoms persist beyond four weeks or worsen during treatment.
