Rosuvastatin (20mg)
Active composition
Rosuvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, decreasing cholesterol synthesis in the liver and increasing LDL receptor expression.
Medical applications
Ldnil 20 Tablet contains Rosuvastatin 20 mg, a potent lipid-lowering agent belonging to the statin class of medications. It is primarily indicated for the management of hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, effectively reducing elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), total cholesterol, and triglycerides while modestly increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Rosuvastatin exerts its therapeutic effect by selectively inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis, leading to decreased cholesterol production in the liver and upregulation of LDL receptors, which enhances clearance of circulating LDL particles. Ldnil 20 is prescribed for patients with primary hyperlipidemia, familial hypercholesterolemia, and those at high risk of cardiovascular events to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The tablet should be taken orally, once daily, with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Dosage adjustments may be necessary based on patient response and tolerability. Common adverse effects include headache, myalgia, and gastrointestinal disturbances, while rare but serious risks involve myopathy and hepatotoxicity; therefore, periodic monitoring of liver function tests and creatine kinase levels is recommended during therapy. Ldnil 20 should be used cautiously in patients with hepatic impairment and contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.
