Levocetirizine is a selective, non-sedating antihistamine that competitively inhibits peripheral H1 receptors, thereby reducing symptoms such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, and pruritus associated with allergic rhinitis and chronic urticaria. Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor CysLT1, which plays a critical role in the pathophysiology of asthma and allergic rhinitis by mediating bronchoconstriction, mucus secretion, and inflammation. The combination of these two agents provides a synergistic effect, addressing both histamine-mediated and leukotriene-mediated pathways, resulting in improved control of allergic symptoms.
