Additionally, it is effective in managing hepatic encephalopathy by reducing blood ammonia levels through its acidifying effect in the colon, which converts ammonia to ammonium ions, thereby reducing systemic absorption.

The usual dosage varies depending on the indication and patient response, and it should be adjusted accordingly under medical supervision. Common side effects include flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea, which are generally mild and transient. Laxiwal Solution should be used cautiously in patients with galactosemia or those requiring electrolyte monitoring. It is contraindicated in cases of intestinal obstruction or hypersensitivity to lactulose.
