Laxil Oral Solution contains Lactulose 10gm, a synthetic disaccharide used primarily as a laxative for the treatment of constipation. Lactulose works by increasing the osmotic pressure in the colon, which promotes water retention in the bowel, softening stools and facilitating bowel movements. It also serves as a prebiotic, promoting the growth of beneficial colonic bacteria. Laxil is indicated for the management of chronic constipation and hepatic encephalopathy by reducing blood ammonia levels through bacterial metabolism in the gut.

The solution is administered orally, with dosage individualized based on patient response and clinical condition. Commonly, adults may start with 15-30 mL daily, adjusted as needed to achieve desired bowel movement frequency. Laxil is generally well tolerated; however, some patients may experience gastrointestinal side effects such as bloating, flatulence, or abdominal discomfort, which often diminish with continued use.
Caution is advised in patients with galactosemia or those requiring strict galactose restriction. Laxil Oral Solution should be used under medical supervision, especially in patients with diabetes mellitus due to its sugar content.
