Additionally, Lactitol is utilized in the management of hepatic encephalopathy by reducing the absorption of ammonia in the gut, thus lowering systemic ammonia levels and improving neurological symptoms associated with liver dysfunction. The syrup formulation allows for easy administration, particularly in pediatric and geriatric populations. Lactihep Syrup is generally well tolerated; however, mild gastrointestinal side effects such as bloating, flatulence, and abdominal discomfort may occur.
It is contraindicated in patients with galactosemia or intestinal obstruction. Caution is advised in individuals with diabetes mellitus due to its sugar content.
