Lacotide Syrup contains lacosamide 15 mg per dose and is indicated as an adjunctive therapy for the treatment of partial-onset seizures in patients with epilepsy. Lacosamide is an antiepileptic agent that selectively enhances slow inactivation of voltage-gated sodium channels, stabilizing hyperexcitable neuronal membranes and inhibiting repetitive neuronal firing without affecting normal neuronal excitability.

This mechanism contributes to its efficacy in reducing seizure frequency. Lacotide Syrup is formulated for ease of administration, particularly in pediatric and adult patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets. The syrup allows for precise dose titration based on individual patient response and tolerability. It is generally well tolerated, with common adverse effects including dizziness, headache, nausea, and fatigue.
Caution is advised in patients with cardiac conduction abnormalities due to potential PR interval prolongation. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with renal or hepatic impairment. Lacotide Syrup should be used under medical supervision, with regular monitoring for efficacy and adverse effects. It is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to lacosamide or any components of the formulation.
