Coal Tar (4% w/v) + Ketoconazole (2% w/v)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Ketoconazole inhibits ergosterol synthesis, compromising fungal cell membrane integrity and leading to cell lysis.
Medical applications
Klinique Plus Lotion is a topical formulation containing Ketoconazole 2% w/v and Coal Tar 4% w/v, indicated for the treatment of various dermatological conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, and dandruff. Ketoconazole is an imidazole antifungal agent that inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes, thereby exerting fungistatic and fungicidal effects against dermatophytes, yeasts, and Malassezia species. Coal Tar, a complex mixture of phenols and other aromatic hydrocarbons, exhibits anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and keratoplastic properties, helping to reduce scaling, itching, and inflammation associated with hyperproliferative skin disorders. The combination of these active ingredients provides a synergistic effect, addressing both fungal infection and symptomatic skin irritation. Klinique Plus Lotion is applied topically to the affected areas once or twice daily as directed by a healthcare professional. It is generally well tolerated; however, local adverse reactions such as irritation, burning, or contact dermatitis may occur. Caution is advised in patients with known hypersensitivity to either component. Use during pregnancy and lactation should be under medical supervision. This product should be stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
