Ketovate Soap contains Ketoconazole 2% w/w, an antifungal agent used primarily for the treatment of various fungal infections of the skin. Ketoconazole belongs to the imidazole class of antifungals and exhibits broad-spectrum activity against dermatophytes, yeasts, and certain molds by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption leads to increased membrane permeability and ultimately fungal cell death. Ketovate Soap is indicated for the management of superficial mycoses including tinea versicolor, tinea corporis, tinea cruris, and candidiasis of the skin. It is also effective in controlling seborrheic dermatitis caused by Malassezia species. The soap formulation allows for topical application, facilitating direct contact with affected areas to reduce fungal load and associated symptoms such as itching, scaling, and inflammation. For optimal results, the soap should be used as directed, typically applied to the affected area, lathered, and rinsed off after a few minutes. Caution is advised in patients with known hypersensitivity to ketoconazole or other imidazole antifungals. Prolonged use should be avoided to minimize the risk of local irritation or sensitization. Ketovate Soap is intended for external use only and should not be used on broken or inflamed skin.
