Ketoconazole exerts its action by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes, thereby disrupting cell membrane integrity and leading to fungal cell death. This shampoo is primarily indicated for the management of seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff associated with Malassezia species, as well as other superficial fungal infections of the scalp. Ketonex Shampoo provides symptomatic relief from itching, scaling, and flaking. It is applied topically to the affected areas of the scalp, typically used twice weekly for a duration determined by the severity of the condition and clinical response. The shampoo should be left on the scalp for 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Ketonex Shampoo is generally well tolerated; however, mild local irritation, itching, or dryness may occur. It is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to ketoconazole or any of the excipients. Use with caution in patients with broken or inflamed skin.
