Ketax Cream contains Ketoconazole 2% w/w, an imidazole antifungal agent effective against a broad spectrum of fungal infections. It is primarily indicated for the topical treatment of superficial mycoses caused by dermatophytes, yeasts, and other susceptible fungi, including conditions such as tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea pedis, and pityriasis versicolor. Ketoconazole exerts its antifungal action by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes, thereby disrupting membrane integrity and leading to fungal cell death. The cream formulation allows for localized application, minimizing systemic absorption and reducing the risk of systemic side effects. Ketax Cream should be applied once or twice daily to the affected area after cleansing and drying the skin, continuing treatment for at least 2 to 4 weeks depending on the severity and type of infection. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ketoconazole or any excipients in the formulation. Common adverse effects may include mild local irritation, itching, or burning sensation at the application site. Use with caution in patients with broken or inflamed skin.
