Aspirin acts as an antiplatelet agent by irreversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase, thereby reducing thromboxane A2 synthesis and preventing platelet aggregation. Clopidogrel, another antiplatelet agent, selectively inhibits the binding of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) to its platelet receptor, further preventing platelet activation and aggregation.
