Ketoconazole (1% w/w)
Active composition
Ketoconazole inhibits ergosterol synthesis, compromising fungal cell membrane integrity and leading to cell lysis.
Medical applications
IZ K Soap contains Ketoconazole 1% w/w, an antifungal agent effective in the treatment of various fungal skin infections. Ketoconazole belongs to the imidazole class of antifungals and acts by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes, thereby disrupting membrane integrity and leading to fungal cell death. IZ K Soap is indicated for the management of superficial mycoses such as tinea versicolor, pityriasis versicolor, seborrheic dermatitis, and dermatophytosis affecting the skin. It is also beneficial in controlling Malassezia species, which are implicated in dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. The soap formulation allows for topical application, facilitating direct contact with the affected area, promoting rapid antifungal action while minimizing systemic absorption and associated adverse effects. For optimal results, the soap should be used as directed, typically applied to the affected area, lathered, and rinsed off after a few minutes. Regular use as prescribed helps reduce fungal load and alleviate symptoms such as itching, scaling, and redness. IZ K Soap is generally well tolerated; however, mild local irritation or dryness may occur. Patients should avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes and discontinue use if hypersensitivity reactions develop.
