Ketoconazole (2% w/w)
Active composition
Ketoconazole inhibits ergosterol synthesis, compromising fungal cell membrane integrity and leading to cell lysis.
Medical applications
Iycotic Cream contains Ketoconazole 2% w/w, an imidazole antifungal agent effective in the treatment of various superficial fungal infections of the skin. Ketoconazole acts by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes, thereby disrupting membrane integrity and leading to fungal cell death. Iycotic Cream is indicated for the management of dermatophytosis, candidiasis, pityriasis versicolor, and other fungal skin infections caused by susceptible organisms. The cream formulation allows for topical application, providing localized antifungal activity with minimal systemic absorption. It is suitable for use on affected areas such as the body, face, and scalp. Patients are advised to apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area once or twice daily, depending on the severity of the infection, and to continue treatment for the full prescribed duration to prevent recurrence. Common side effects are generally mild and may include local irritation, burning sensation, or itching at the application site. Iycotic Cream should be used with caution in individuals with known hypersensitivity to ketoconazole or other imidazole derivatives. It is contraindicated in patients with open wounds or mucosal surfaces unless specifically directed by a healthcare professional.
How to use Iycotic Cream This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the cream. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.
