It is indicated for the treatment of various fungal infections, including dermatophytosis, onychomycosis, blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, aspergillosis, and other systemic mycoses caused by susceptible fungi. Itraconazole works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes, thereby disrupting membrane integrity and leading to fungal cell death. The capsule formulation allows for oral administration with good bioavailability, especially when taken with food. Itralase 100 is generally well tolerated; however, patients should be monitored for potential adverse effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, rash, and elevated liver enzymes. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to itraconazole or other azole antifungals. Caution is advised when co-administered with drugs metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes due to the potential for significant drug interactions.
