Itral 1% Ointment contains Itraconazole 1% w/w, a broad-spectrum antifungal agent belonging to the triazole class. It is indicated for the topical treatment of various superficial fungal infections caused by dermatophytes, yeasts, and molds, including tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea pedis, and candidiasis of the skin. Itraconazole exerts its antifungal effect by inhibiting the cytochrome P450-dependent enzyme lanosterol 14-α-demethylase, which is essential for ergosterol synthesis, a key component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption leads to increased membrane permeability and ultimately fungal cell death. Itral 1% Ointment is applied topically to the affected area once or twice daily, depending on the severity and clinical response, and treatment duration typically ranges from 2 to 4 weeks. It is important to apply the ointment to clean, dry skin and to continue treatment for the full prescribed duration to prevent recurrence. Itral 1% Ointment is generally well tolerated; however, mild local irritation or erythema may occur. Use is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to itraconazole or any excipients.
