Itraconazole exerts its antifungal effect by inhibiting the cytochrome P450-dependent enzyme lanosterol 14-α-demethylase, which is essential for ergosterol synthesis, a key component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption leads to increased membrane permeability and ultimately fungal cell death. Itrafix 100 Capsule is administered orally and demonstrates good bioavailability when taken with food, enhancing absorption. It is metabolized primarily in the liver via the CYP3A4 pathway and has a half-life of approximately 24-42 hours, allowing for once or twice daily dosing depending on the infection severity. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment or congestive heart failure, and potential drug interactions should be carefully monitored due to CYP3A4 inhibition.
