Icos 1G Capsule contains Icosapent ethyl 1000 mg, a highly purified ethyl ester of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3 fatty acid primarily used as an adjunct to diet for reducing triglyceride levels in adult patients with severe hypertriglyceridemia (≥500 mg/dL). Icosapent ethyl acts by reducing hepatic triglyceride synthesis and enhancing triglyceride clearance from circulating very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL).

This mechanism contributes to lowering serum triglyceride concentrations, thereby potentially reducing the risk of pancreatitis associated with elevated triglycerides. Additionally, Icosapent ethyl has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and plaque-stabilizing effects, which may contribute to cardiovascular risk reduction in certain populations. The recommended dosage is typically 2 grams twice daily with meals, but dosing should be individualized based on clinical response and physician discretion.
Icos 1G Capsule is generally well tolerated; common adverse effects include gastrointestinal symptoms such as dyspepsia, nausea, and diarrhea. Caution is advised in patients with known hypersensitivity to fish or shellfish, as the product is derived from fish oil. Concomitant use with anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents may increase bleeding risk, warranting careful monitoring.
