Carboxymethylcellulose acts as a viscoelastic agent that enhances tear film stability and prolongs ocular surface hydration, thereby alleviating symptoms of dry eye syndrome such as irritation, burning, and foreign body sensation. Glycerin serves as a humectant and osmoprotectant, contributing to moisture retention and cellular protection against desiccation and environmental stress. N-acetylcarnosine, a potent antioxidant, is included for its ability to reduce oxidative stress in the lens and cornea, potentially slowing the progression of cataract formation and improving overall ocular health. Hylube Eye Drop is indicated for symptomatic relief of dry, irritated eyes and may be used adjunctively in patients at risk of oxidative ocular damage.
