Active composition
Ursodeoxycholic acid reduces cholesterol absorption in the intestine and promotes the dissolution of cholesterol gallstones by decreasing hepatic cholesterol secretion and increasing bile salt concentration.
Medical applications
Hepholic Tablet contains Ursodeoxycholic Acid 300 mg, a bile acid used primarily in the treatment of certain liver and gallbladder disorders. Ursodeoxycholic Acid acts by reducing cholesterol absorption and dissolving cholesterol-rich gallstones, thereby improving bile flow and protecting liver cells from toxic bile acids. It is indicated for the management of primary biliary cholangitis, a chronic liver disease characterized by progressive destruction of bile ducts, as well as for the dissolution of radiolucent gallstones in patients who are not candidates for surgery. Additionally, Hepholic Tablet may be used to improve liver function in cholestatic liver diseases by enhancing bile secretion and reducing hepatocellular damage. The drug is generally well tolerated; however, common side effects may include mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal discomfort. It is contraindicated in patients with complete biliary obstruction, acute inflammation of the gallbladder or pancreas, and hypersensitivity to Ursodeoxycholic Acid. Dosage and duration of therapy should be individualized based on the patient’s clinical condition and response to treatment. Regular monitoring of liver function tests is recommended during therapy to assess efficacy and detect potential adverse effects.
