Heelcort Ointment is a topical formulation containing Clobetasol propionate (0.05% w/w), Salicylic Acid (3% w/w), Lactic Acid (3% w/w), and Urea (10% w/w), designed for the management of various dermatological conditions. Clobetasol propionate, a potent corticosteroid, exerts strong anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects, making it effective in reducing inflammation and itching associated with skin disorders. Salicylic acid acts as a keratolytic agent, facilitating the removal of scales and promoting exfoliation, thereby enhancing the penetration of the corticosteroid. Lactic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid, contributes to skin hydration and mild keratolysis, improving skin texture and moisture retention. Urea serves as a humectant and keratolytic agent, softening hyperkeratotic skin and aiding in the restoration of the skin barrier. Heelcort Ointment is indicated for the treatment of chronic, recalcitrant dermatoses such as psoriasis, eczema, lichen planus, and hyperkeratotic conditions where inflammation, scaling, and thickened skin are present. It should be used under medical supervision, avoiding prolonged application to prevent potential adverse effects associated with potent corticosteroids. Patients are advised to apply a thin layer to the affected area once or twice daily as directed, ensuring appropriate hygiene and monitoring for any signs of irritation or hypersensitivity.
