Hansepran 100 Capsule contains Clofazimine 100 mg, an antimicrobial agent primarily used in the treatment of leprosy (Hansen’s disease). Clofazimine exhibits anti-inflammatory and bactericidal properties by binding to the mycobacterial DNA, thereby inhibiting replication and growth of Mycobacterium leprae. It is indicated for use in multibacillary leprosy as part of combination therapy to reduce bacterial load and prevent resistance development.

Hansepran 100 Capsule is also employed in managing erythema nodosum leprosum, a painful inflammatory complication of leprosy, due to its immunomodulatory effects. The medication is administered orally, with dosage and duration tailored according to disease severity and patient response. Common adverse effects include skin discoloration ranging from reddish-brown to black, gastrointestinal disturbances such as abdominal pain and diarrhea, and dry skin.
Due to its lipophilic nature, Clofazimine accumulates in fatty tissues, leading to prolonged half-life and gradual clearance. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment, and regular monitoring is recommended during long-term therapy. Hansepran 100 Capsule should be used under medical supervision, ensuring adherence to prescribed regimens to optimize therapeutic outcomes and minimize potential resistance or toxicity.
