Pantoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells, effectively reducing acid-related damage and promoting mucosal healing in conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and peptic ulcers.
