Halotop-S Ointment is a topical formulation containing Halobetasol propionate (0.05% w/w) and Salicylic Acid (3% w/w), designed for the treatment of various inflammatory and hyperkeratotic dermatological conditions. Halobetasol is a potent corticosteroid that exerts anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators and suppressing immune responses in the skin. Salicylic Acid acts as a keratolytic agent, promoting the exfoliation of the stratum corneum and facilitating the penetration of Halobetasol into deeper layers of the epidermis. This combination is particularly effective in managing plaque psoriasis, eczema, lichen planus, and other hyperkeratotic dermatoses characterized by scaling, thickening, and inflammation. Halotop-S Ointment should be applied in a thin layer to the affected area once or twice daily, as directed by a healthcare professional, and treatment duration should be limited to minimize potential adverse effects associated with potent corticosteroids, such as skin atrophy, telangiectasia, and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component, untreated skin infections, or viral, fungal, or tubercular skin lesions. Caution is advised when used on sensitive areas or in pediatric populations.
