Halobet S Ointment is a topical formulation containing Halobetasol propionate 0.05% w/w, a potent corticosteroid, combined with Salicylic Acid 3% w/w, a keratolytic agent. This combination is indicated for the treatment of various inflammatory and hyperkeratotic skin disorders such as psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis, where both anti-inflammatory and exfoliative actions are required. Halobetasol exerts strong anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects by inhibiting multiple inflammatory cytokines and mediators, thereby reducing redness, swelling, and itching. Salicylic Acid facilitates the removal of scales and promotes the penetration of Halobetasol by softening and loosening keratinized skin layers. Halobet S Ointment should be applied sparingly to the affected area once or twice daily as directed by a healthcare professional. Prolonged use or application over large surface areas should be avoided to minimize the risk of systemic corticosteroid absorption and potential side effects such as skin atrophy, telangiectasia, or hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression. It is contraindicated in viral, fungal, or bacterial skin infections unless appropriate antimicrobial therapy is concurrently administered. Patients should be advised to avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes and to discontinue use if irritation or hypersensitivity occurs.
