Glencoff-DX Syrup is a combination antitussive and antihistaminic formulation containing Chlorpheniramine Maleate (4 mg/5 ml) and Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide (10 mg/5 ml). It is indicated for the symptomatic relief of cough associated with allergic conditions, upper respiratory tract infections, and bronchial irritation. Chlorpheniramine Maleate, a first-generation antihistamine, exerts its effect by competitively inhibiting histamine H1 receptors, thereby reducing allergic manifestations such as rhinorrhea, sneezing, and nasal congestion. Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide acts centrally on the cough center in the medulla to suppress the cough reflex without causing significant sedation or respiratory depression at recommended doses. Glencoff-DX Syrup is particularly useful in managing dry, non-productive coughs where suppression of the cough reflex is desired. The syrup formulation allows for easy administration in pediatric and adult patients. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any component, respiratory depression, or concurrent use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
