Additionally, it increases the tone of the lower esophageal sphincter, thereby reducing reflux symptoms. Gastractiv is typically administered orally at a dose of 10mg, with the frequency determined by the severity of symptoms and clinical judgment. It is generally well-tolerated, though potential side effects include dry mouth, abdominal cramps, and, rarely, extrapyramidal symptoms or cardiac arrhythmias, particularly in patients with predisposing factors or when used at higher doses.
Caution is advised in patients with underlying cardiac conditions, liver impairment, or those taking medications that prolong the QT interval. Gastractiv should be used under medical supervision, and patients should report any adverse effects promptly.
