Ezetimibe (10mg)
Active composition
Ezetimibe selectively inhibits the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and related phytosterols by blocking the Niemann-Pick C1-like 1 (NPC1L1) transporter.
Medical applications
Garnimibe 10 Tablet contains Ezetimibe 10 mg, a lipid-lowering agent used primarily to reduce elevated total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and apolipoprotein B in patients with primary hyperlipidemia or mixed hyperlipidemia. Ezetimibe acts by selectively inhibiting the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and related phytosterols at the brush border of the small intestine, thereby decreasing the delivery of intestinal cholesterol to the liver. This mechanism results in a reduction of hepatic cholesterol stores and an increase in clearance of cholesterol from the blood. Garnimibe 10 is indicated as an adjunct to diet for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, either as monotherapy or in combination with statins when additional LDL-C reduction is required. It is also used in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia in combination with other lipid-lowering treatments. The tablet is generally well tolerated, with common adverse effects including headache, diarrhea, and upper respiratory tract infections. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment, and liver function tests should be monitored periodically. Garnimibe 10 should be administered once daily, with or without food, as part of a comprehensive cholesterol management program including diet and lifestyle modifications.
