It is indicated for the long-term management of chronic gout and may be prescribed when patients are intolerant to or inadequately controlled by other urate-lowering therapies such as allopurinol. Common side effects may include liver function abnormalities, nausea, joint pain, and rash; therefore, regular monitoring of liver enzymes and renal function is recommended during treatment.
