Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), suppresses gastric acid secretion by irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells, providing effective acid control and promoting mucosal healing. The sustained-release (SR) formulation ensures prolonged therapeutic plasma concentrations, optimizing efficacy and patient compliance.
Esomac L Capsule SR is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), functional dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease, and other acid-related disorders accompanied by impaired gastric motility. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to either component and should be used cautiously in individuals with hepatic or renal impairment. Common adverse effects may include headache, dizziness, dry mouth, and gastrointestinal disturbances.
Clinical monitoring is advised during prolonged therapy to assess therapeutic response and detect potential adverse reactions. This combination therapy offers a synergistic approach by addressing both acid suppression and gastric motility enhancement.
