Esogress 40 Tablet contains Esomeprazole 40 mg, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used primarily to reduce gastric acid secretion. It is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid production. Esomeprazole works by selectively inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells, thereby suppressing the final step of acid production. This results in decreased gastric acidity, promoting healing of acid-related damage and alleviating symptoms such as heartburn and acid regurgitation. Esogress 40 is typically administered orally, once daily, preferably before meals, with dosage adjustments based on clinical response and severity of the condition. It is generally well tolerated; however, potential side effects may include headache, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, and dizziness. Long-term use should be monitored due to risks of vitamin B12 deficiency, hypomagnesemia, and increased susceptibility to gastrointestinal infections. Esogress 40 is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole or other PPIs. Caution is advised when co-administered with drugs metabolized by the cytochrome P450 system.
