It is indicated for the management of epilepsy and prevention of seizures following neurosurgery or head trauma. Dosage should be individualized based on patient response and serum phenytoin levels, with careful monitoring to avoid toxicity.
Common adverse effects include dizziness, ataxia, nystagmus, and gingival hyperplasia, while serious reactions may involve hypersensitivity, hepatotoxicity, and hematologic abnormalities.
