Epsolin ER 200 Tablet contains Phenytoin 200 mg, an antiepileptic agent used primarily for the management and prevention of generalized tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures, complex partial seizures, and status epilepticus. Phenytoin acts by stabilizing neuronal membranes and decreasing seizure activity by increasing efflux or decreasing influx of sodium ions across cell membranes in the motor cortex during the generation of nerve impulses.

Epsolin ER 200 is indicated for patients requiring long-term seizure management and should be used under strict medical supervision due to its narrow therapeutic index and potential for adverse effects such as gingival hyperplasia, ataxia, nystagmus, and hematologic abnormalities.
Regular monitoring of serum phenytoin levels is recommended to ensure therapeutic efficacy and minimize toxicity. Dose adjustments may be necessary based on clinical response and plasma concentrations. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment, cardiovascular disease, or those receiving concomitant medications that may interact with phenytoin metabolism.
