Epsolin 100 Tablet contains Phenytoin 100 mg, an antiepileptic medication primarily used for the management and prevention of generalized tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures and complex partial seizures. Phenytoin acts by stabilizing neuronal membranes and decreasing seizure activity by increasing efflux or decreasing influx of sodium ions across cell membranes in the motor cortex during the generation of nerve impulses.

This mechanism helps to reduce the spread of seizure activity in the brain. Epsolin 100 is indicated for the control of seizures in epilepsy patients and may also be used for the prevention of seizures during or after neurosurgery or head trauma. The dosage should be individualized based on patient response and serum phenytoin levels, typically starting with a low dose and gradually increasing to achieve optimal seizure control while minimizing adverse effects.
Common side effects include dizziness, ataxia, nystagmus, and gingival hyperplasia, while serious adverse reactions may involve hypersensitivity, blood dyscrasias, or severe dermatologic reactions. Regular monitoring of blood levels, liver function, and complete blood counts is recommended during therapy. Epsolin 100 should be used cautiously in patients with hepatic impairment and contraindicated in those with hypersensitivity to phenytoin or related compounds.
