Epilite Topical Solution contains Hydroquinone 5% w/v, a potent skin-lightening agent primarily used for the treatment of hyperpigmentation disorders such as melasma, freckles, age spots, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Hydroquinone acts by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase, which is essential in the biosynthesis of melanin, thereby reducing the formation of excess pigment in the skin. Epilite is indicated for topical application on affected areas to achieve a more even skin tone and improve cosmetic appearance. It is recommended to apply a thin layer to the affected skin once or twice daily, avoiding contact with eyes, mucous membranes, and broken skin. Patients should be advised to use sunscreen and limit sun exposure during treatment, as Hydroquinone may increase photosensitivity. Common side effects include mild irritation, redness, and dryness at the application site; however, these are generally transient. Prolonged or excessive use should be avoided to prevent potential adverse effects such as ochronosis, a rare skin discoloration. Epilite Topical Solution should be used under medical supervision, particularly in individuals with sensitive skin or those prone to allergic reactions.
