This medication is typically prescribed alongside levodopa and carbidopa or benserazide to enhance and extend the duration of motor symptom relief, reducing "off" episodes characterized by diminished mobility. Entacom is indicated for patients who exhibit wearing-off phenomena despite optimized levodopa therapy. The recommended dose is one 200mg tablet administered with each levodopa dose, not exceeding eight tablets daily.
Common adverse effects include dyskinesia, nausea, diarrhea, and orthostatic hypotension, which are generally manageable with dose adjustments. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment, and Entacom should be used with care in individuals with a history of neuroleptic malignant syndrome or rhabdomyolysis.
