About This Medicine
Product description & overview
GeneVac-B Adult Vaccine contains Hepatitis B Vaccine (rDNA) at a concentration of 20 mcg per dose, designed for active immunization against hepatitis B virus infection in adults. This recombinant DNA vaccine is produced using yeast cells and contains purified hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), which stimulates the immune system to produce protective antibodies without the risk of infection. GeneVac-B is indicated for individuals at risk of hepatitis B exposure, including healthcare workers, patients with chronic liver disease, individuals with multiple sexual partners, and those requiring long-term hemodialysis. The vaccine is administered intramuscularly, typically in a three-dose schedule at 0, 1, and 6 months, to achieve optimal immunogenicity. It is contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to any vaccine component. Common adverse reactions include mild injection site pain, erythema, and low-grade fever, which are generally transient. Immunization with GeneVac-B provides effective protection by inducing anti-HBs antibodies, thereby preventing acute and chronic hepatitis B infection and its complications such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Proper storage between 2°C and 8°C is essential to maintain vaccine potency. Healthcare professionals should follow recommended guidelines for administration and monitor patients for any adverse events post-vaccination.
