Zocef 250 Tablet contains Cefuroxime 250mg, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic effective against a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. It functions by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. Zocef 250 is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, otitis media, and Lyme disease. The drug exhibits activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Escherichia coli. Cefuroxime is well absorbed orally and achieves therapeutic concentrations in various body tissues and fluids. Dosage should be individualized based on the severity of infection, renal function, and patient age. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain, as well as hypersensitivity reactions in patients with penicillin or cephalosporin allergy. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics. Zocef 250 should be used under medical supervision, and the full prescribed course must be completed to prevent resistance development.
