Xoclave 625 Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Amoxycillin 500 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, designed to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. Amoxycillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic, exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. However, many bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that degrade amoxycillin, rendering it ineffective. Clavulanic Acid acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor, protecting amoxycillin from enzymatic degradation and thereby broadening its antimicrobial spectrum. Xoclave 625 is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria, including respiratory tract infections (such as sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media. The combination is effective against beta-lactamase producing strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenzae, and other pathogens. Dosage and duration of therapy should be determined by the severity of infection and patient-specific factors. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, diarrhea, and hypersensitivity reactions. Caution is advised in patients with a history of penicillin allergy or hepatic impairment.
