Xenoscab Cream contains Permethrin 5% w/w, a synthetic pyrethroid with potent scabicidal and pediculicidal properties. It is indicated for the topical treatment of scabies, a parasitic infestation caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. Permethrin acts by disrupting the sodium channel current in the nerve cells of the mites, leading to delayed repolarization, paralysis, and eventual death of the parasite. Xenoscab Cream is applied as a single topical dose to the entire body from the neck down, including the scalp in children, and left on for 8 to 14 hours before washing off. The treatment may be repeated after 7 days if symptoms persist. Xenoscab Cream is generally well tolerated; adverse effects are usually mild and transient, including local pruritus, erythema, and burning sensation at the application site. It is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to permethrin or any component of the formulation. Caution is advised in pregnant or breastfeeding women, and use in infants under 2 months of age should be under medical supervision.
