About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Escrab Cream contains Permethrin 5% w/w, a synthetic pyrethroid with potent scabicidal and pediculicidal properties. It is indicated for the treatment of scabies, a contagious skin infestation caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. Permethrin acts by disrupting the sodium channel current in nerve cells of the parasite, leading to delayed repolarization, paralysis, and eventual death of the mites. Escrab Cream is applied topically to the entire body from the neck down, including under the nails and interdigital spaces, and left on for 8 to 14 hours before washing off. A single application is often sufficient; however, a second application may be necessary in cases of persistent infestation. The cream is generally well tolerated, with mild and transient local reactions such as itching, burning, or erythema occasionally reported. It is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to permethrin or any component of the formulation. Caution is advised when used in infants under two months of age, pregnant or lactating women, and patients with extensive skin lesions. Escrab Cream should be used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan including hygiene measures and treatment of close contacts to prevent reinfestation.
