About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Maxolid DS Dry Syrup contains Linezolid 100mg/5ml as its active ingredient and is indicated for the treatment of serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive pathogens, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE). Linezolid, an oxazolidinone antibiotic, acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S subunit, thereby preventing the formation of the initiation complex essential for bacterial translation. Maxolid DS Dry Syrup is formulated for oral suspension, facilitating administration in pediatric and adult patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets. It is primarily used in conditions such as complicated skin and soft tissue infections, community-acquired and nosocomial pneumonia, and other infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-positive bacteria. Dosage should be individualized based on the severity of infection, patient weight, and renal function, with typical treatment durations ranging from 10 to 14 days. Caution is advised in patients with a history of myelosuppression, and regular monitoring of blood counts is recommended during prolonged therapy. Concomitant use with serotonergic agents requires vigilance due to the risk of serotonin syndrome. Maxolid DS Dry Syrup should be used under strict medical supervision to ensure efficacy and minimize adverse effects.
