About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Lizomac Tablet contains Linezolid 600 mg, an oxazolidinone-class antibiotic indicated for the treatment of serious Gram-positive bacterial infections, including those caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE). It is primarily utilized in managing complicated skin and soft tissue infections, nosocomial and community-acquired pneumonia, and other severe infections where alternative treatments are limited or ineffective. Linezolid exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S subunit, thereby preventing the formation of the functional 70S initiation complex essential for bacterial translation. Lizomac Tablet is administered orally, offering high bioavailability and consistent systemic exposure. The usual adult dosage is 600 mg every 12 hours, with treatment duration tailored according to infection severity and clinical response. Caution is advised in patients with a history of myelosuppression, as Linezolid may cause hematological adverse effects such as thrombocytopenia, anemia, and leukopenia, particularly with prolonged use beyond two weeks. Additionally, Linezolid is a weak, reversible, non-selective monoamine oxidase inhibitor; therefore, potential drug interactions with serotonergic agents and tyramine-rich foods should be carefully managed to avoid serotonin syndrome and hypertensive crises. Monitoring of complete blood counts and clinical status is recommended during therapy.
